Some common terms used in connection with domain management.

Pointing – Adding nameservers in the domains’ DNS to point to a hosting server where a site or landing page is hosted. By default, your domains are pointing to the registrar’s nameservers until you change them.

DNS Forwarding – This is synonymous to Pointing. Referring to DNS Forwarding means that you set the name servers of the DMP Platform (ns1.namecontrol.net & ns2.namecontrol.net) in your domains’ DNS at your registrar.

Forwarding – you leave the DNS pointing to the registrar’s nameservers, but you forward the domain via a URL. It’s like forwarding your emails to another email address. Note: we don’t recommend you use this method to forward your domains to their landing or sales pages. Use DNS Forwarding instead.

Redirecting – this is synonymous with forwarding and is used by Uniregistry for the same thing. Note: again, this is not recommended for landing/sales pages.

Forwarding with Masking and Embedded Redirect are synonymous and used by GoDaddy and Uniregistry respectively. It is a way to forward domains via URL using iFrames so that the domain stays in the browser (other registrars may use the term iFrame ForwardingCloaked Forwarding or similar). DMP uses this to determine what domain is being forwarded and then is able to redirect that domain to the corresponding sales page or landing page, depending on how you set this up in the back-end.
